Pressure-Preloaded Planar Air Bearing (PDL)
Pressure-preloaded planar air bearings are pressed against a reference surface by means of a piston-generated preload force. By precisely adjusting the piston pressure, one bearing surface can serve as the guiding and reference surface, while the opposing surface functions solely as a counter-pressure surface with significantly reduced accuracy requirements.
Through precise adjustment of the preload, it is also possible to maintain a constant air gap across the entire travel range of the bearing. This ensures highly stable operating conditions and outstanding positioning accuracy throughout the complete range of motion.
